Dear Family,
Today is Monday, June 10, 2024. It is Day 44 and Day 2 of Week 7 in our Count to Pentecost.
As Israel camped near Mt. Sinai, God sent a message to the people through Moses. God described His actions toward Israel as carrying them “on eagles‛ wings.”
Exodus 19:3-4 (3) And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying; Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; (4) Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles wings, and brought you unto Myself.
This beautiful eagle metaphor appears again in Revelation and relates to the Church of God. There it is a clear indication of protection and nourishment.
Revelation 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
God‛s lovely poetic words in Exodus 19 precede the actual covenant agreement. These words seem quite a bit like a proposal. They present details of what God intended to do, and that was to make them His people through a marriage covenant (see Jeremiah 31:32 below).
Exodus 19:5-9 (5) Now therefore, if ye will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is Mine: (6) And ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. (7) And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him. (8) And all the people answered together, and said; All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD. (9) And the LORD said unto Moses; Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.
Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which My covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
God‛s people have to be where God wants them to be (physically and spiritually) as He disperses His gifts. Ancient Israel needed to be at the base of Mt. Sinai, and Jesus‛ disciples needed to be in unity in Jerusalem. Let us be where we need to be to receive God‛s gifts.
